Security with Camlocks

Camlocks are one of the major workhorses of the industrial world. This small, simple coupling allows hoses and pipes to quickly and easily be connected or disconnected while maintaining a completely tight, secure seal when in place. Let's take a closer look at what camlocks are, the types that exist, and how they are a crucial component of 'Crimpnology.'

What Are Camlocks?

Camlocks are a type of coupling that are designed to quickly, easily, and securely attach two sections of piping or hose. This facilitates a full hosing or piping system that can then transport fluid without any leakage. Camlocks greatly increase the versatility and efficiency of industrial fluid systems by providing a quick, simple way to lengthen, shorten, or disconnect a section of pipe or hose.

Camlocks feature two ends which are classified as either male or female depending on how they join to the pipe or hose. Camlocks also have various different types of connection parts such as flanges or butt welding depending on the type of camlock and its requirements. One of the most important aspects of camlocks is that they do not leak. Thus, a tight, secure fit is crucial.

Different Camlock Fasteners

There are 8 primary different types of camlock fasteners which are classified based on their two ends. The types include:

  • Type A - Type A features a male camlock on one end and a female pipe thread on the other end.
  • Type B - Type B features a female camlock on one end and a male pipe thread on the other end.
  • Type C - Type C features a female camlock on one end with a male hose tail on the other end.
  • Type D - Type D features a female camlock on one end and a female pipe thread on the other end.
  • Type E - Type E features a male camlock on one end with a male hose tail on the other end
  • Type F - Type F features a male camlock on one end and a male pipe thread on the other end.
  • Type DC - Type DC features a female camlock on one end with an end cap on the other end
  • Type DP - Type DP features a male camlock on one end with an end cap on the other end

These different types of fasteners ensure that there is a camlock to accommodate every type of hose end.

Different Camlock Materials and Sizes

Camlocks are required in a vast array of different industrial settings and may be used on hoses and pipes that transport many various types of materials. This means that the camlock itself must often also be a particular type of material so that it has the ideal properties necessary for its conditions. Some of the most common types of camlock materials include:

  • Stainless Steel
  • Aluminium
  • Brass
  • Polypropylene
  • Plated Steel

In addition the many various types of camlock ends and camlock materials, camlocks also come in a fully assortment of different sizes. This is necessary so that the camlock can fit any size hose or pipe.

Different Types of Camlocks

In addition to the different camlock fasteners and ends, and the different materials and sizes the camlocks come in, they are also often specialized based on their purpose. Some of the common types of camlocks include:

  • Standard Camlocks
  • Fire Hose Camlocks
  • Camlock Weld Fittings
  • Pipe Flange Camlocks
  • Locking Camlocks
  • Dry Disconnect Couplings
  • Elbows Camlocks
  • Petroleum Camlocks
  • Other End Fittings
